Arsenal formally presented new signing Viktor Gyökeres to fans during their Asian pre-season tour ahead of their friendly match against Newcastle United at the Singapore National Stadium on Sunday, July 27, 2025.
Gyökeres joined Arsenal from Sporting Lisbon in a transfer worth £55 million, potentially rising to £64 million with add-ons, and signed a five-year contract. The Swedish international arrives as the solution to Arsenal’s long-standing search for a reliable centre forward.
Although Gyökeres did not feature in the game against Newcastle due to the timing of the transfer, he travelled to Singapore, completed medical assessments, and joined his new teammates during the club's tour. Arsenal officially announced the signing on Saturday evening, paving the way for his unveiling.
The striker was introduced to the crowd roughly 30 minutes before kickoff, giving supporters their first live look at the club’s marquee summer signing.
Arsenal opted for Gyökeres after sporting director Andrea Berta pushed for his acquisition over other targets such as Benjamin Sesko and Alexander Isak, citing his consistent goal-scoring record and experience. Gyökeres expressed confidence in his decision to join Arsenal, noting the club’s playing style, leadership, and global fanbase as key attractions.
Last season, the 27-year-old delivered standout performances for Sporting, netting 39 league goals, scoring a Champions League hat-trick against Manchester City, and amassing a remarkable tally of 97 goals in 102 appearances overall.
He is expected to make his debut later in the tour, potentially during Arsenal’s upcoming match against Tottenham Hotspur in Hong Kong on July 31.
With Gyökeres' arrival, Arsenal’s summer spending has now exceeded £200 million, including the signings of Cristhian Mosquera, Martin Zubimendi, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Christian Nørgaard, and Noni Madueke.
