
Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, affectionately known as the "Sleeping Prince," has passed away at the age of 36, following more than two decades in a coma. The tragic event that led to his prolonged unconscious state began in 2005, when 15-year-old Al-Waleed was critically injured in a car accident near London. The accident caused extensive brain trauma and internal bleeding .
Following the accident, Prince Al-Waleed was transferred to King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh, where he remained on life support. For nearly 20 years, he received round-the-clock care, surrounded by both advanced medical treatment and the unwavering devotion of his family .
Throughout this period, occasional small movements—such as lifting a finger or slightly turning his head—offered glimmers of hope. These moments, captured in family-shared footage, touched hearts across the Middle East and internationally .
Prince Al-Waleed’s father, Prince Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, steadfastly refused to discontinue life support, publicly expressing his belief that only divine will should determine when his son’s life should end . He frequently shared updates, prayers, and Quranic verses on social media, turning the royal residence into a center of ongoing spiritual support .
The royal family confirmed that Prince Al-Waleed passed away on July 19, 2025, in Riyadh. In a statement posted on X, Prince Khaled paid tribute to his son, saying:
> “With hearts believing in Allah’s will and decree, and with deep sorrow and sadness, we mourn our beloved son… may Allah have mercy on him, who passed away today.”
Funeral prayers were held on July 20 at Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque, with arrangements in place to receive condolences over several days .
Prince Al-Waleed’s prolonged struggle for recovery became a powerful symbol of parental love, resilience, and faith. His memory will endure not only within the royal family but also among the many who followed his journey from hope to final farewell.
