Paris Saint-Germain sent a strong message to the football world on Tuesday night, ruthlessly dismantling Real Madrid 4–0 in the FIFA Club World Cup semi-final at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
From the opening whistle, PSG seized control. Spanish midfielder Fabián Ruiz opened the scoring in just the sixth minute, pouncing on a loose ball in the box. Ousmane Dembélé made it two only moments later, capping off a relentless press that left Real Madrid reeling. Ruiz added a third midway through the first half to complete a stunning brace within 25 minutes.
The Spanish giants, who were missing key defenders like Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dean Huijsen, simply couldn’t cope with PSG's pace, precision, and pressure. Despite boasting talents like Kylian Mbappé—who was facing his former team—Madrid failed to muster any real response.
Luis Enrique’s side looked every bit the Champions League winners they are, dominating possession and controlling the rhythm of the game with smart link-up play and rapid transitions. João Neves, Vitinha, and full-backs Achraf Hakimi and Nuno Mendes orchestrated the midfield and flanks to near perfection.
Although the second half saw PSG ease off the throttle slightly, the damage had already been done. Gonçalo Ramos came off the bench to put the finishing touch on a clinical performance with a late fourth goal in the 87th minute.
After the match, Enrique dismissed suggestions that his team had taken pity on Madrid after going three goals up, insisting that fatigue and strategic squad rotation were behind the more measured second-half approach.
With this emphatic win, PSG now advance to the Club World Cup final, where they will take on Chelsea on July 13. Given their blistering form and dominant showing against Europe’s most decorated club, the Parisians will be strong favorites to lift yet another trophy this season.
