Trent Alexander-Arnold was excluded from Real Madrid’s squad for their Club World Cup semifinal against Paris Saint-Germain due to a training setback.
Reports indicate he experienced muscle discomfort in his right leg, which led manager Xabi Alonso to opt against risking him for such a high-stakes match.
Before this injury, Alexander-Arnold had started every game in Madrid’s Club World Cup campaign and was beginning to find form, contributing assists in his last two appearances. In his absence, Federico Valverde was deployed at right-back, while Dani Carvajal remained on the bench.
It’s still unclear whether Alexander-Arnold will recover in time for the final, should Real Madrid advance to face Chelsea.
