Anambra State Governor Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo has disclosed that virtually all individuals involved in kidnapping and violent crime arrested in the state during his tenure are of Igbo descent. Speaking at a town-hall meeting with the Anambra diaspora in New Carrollton, Maryland (USA), Soludo clarified that these offenders are not Fulani herdsmen, as widely assumed, but instead originate from local or Igbo-community backgrounds.

According to Governor Soludo, out of every 100 kidnappers and armed criminals apprehended since he assumed office more than three years ago, nearly all—99.99%—have been Igbo . He stated:“In my three years and three months in office, nearly every kidnapper and armed criminal we have apprehended is Igbo. Igbos are kidnapping and killing fellow Igbos— not Fulani herdsmen.”

Soludo emphasized that these individuals are masquerading under the guise of separatist movements or freedom fighters, yet their motives are primarily criminal. He raised questions about their operational support:“Let’s stop deceiving ourselves. Ask yourselves: how do these so‑called liberators survive in the forests for months without local support? Who feeds them?”

The governor’s remarks also echo earlier reports from April 2024 attributing that over 99% of those arrested for violent crimes in Anambra were Igbo, with a majority being non-indigenes to the state .

Governor Soludo further rebuked narratives blaming outside groups for the surge in criminality across the Southeast. He contended that these are organized, financially motivated gangs, rather than genuine liberation forces, and called on communities to help isolate and expose them.
