Ademola Lookman Breaks Silence, Confirms Transfer Request to Leave Atalanta

Nigerian winger Ademola Lookman has publicly addressed the growing speculation surrounding his exit from Atalanta, using an extensive Instagram post to confirm that he has submitted a formal transfer request. The powerful message contained several pointed revelations, including accusations of “broken promises” from the club and a nostalgic tribute to his time in Bergamo.

In a statement shared via his official Instagram account, Lookman reflected on his contributions over three seasons at the club. He wrote:
“Over the last three years at Atalanta, I’ve given my all... I’ve always worn this jersey with pride… Winning the Europa League … one of the most meaningful moments of my career.”
“This is precisely what makes writing these words so difficult… after three wonderful years… the right time has come to move on and embark on a new adventure.”
“Several clubs approached… and I was told, if a fair offer was made, I would be allowed to leave… although an offer now corresponds to what we agreed, the club is rejecting it… For this reason… I feel… I have no choice but to speak out \[…] I can confirm that I have officially submitted a transfer request.”

Inter Milan submitted two bids, the most recent offering around €42 million plus €3 million in add-ons (totaling €45 million), all of which were rejected by Atalanta. The club remains firm in its insistence on a minimum valuation of €50 million. In response to the firm rejection, Lookman took a symbolic stand: he deleted every post referencing Atalanta from his Instagram, unfollowed the club, changed his profile picture to a solid black image, and removed any mention of the club from his bio.

Since joining the club in August 2022, Lookman quickly became integral to Atalanta’s rise in Europe. He delivered a hat‑trick in the 2024 UEFA Europa League final, sealing Atalanta’s first-ever European title. His standout performances led to him being named the 2024 African Footballer of the Year.

Lookman is intent on pushing the move through and is ready to escalate further. Atalanta remains firm on a €50 million valuation and appears unwilling to compromise. Inter Milan is reportedly ready to return with an elevated offer, having already agreed terms with the player. Other clubs like Atlético Madrid and Napoli remain interested but have yet to submit formal bids.
