Borussia Dortmund Secures Permanent Signing of Carney Chukwuemeka Through 2030
Borussia Dortmund has confirmed the permanent acquisition of Carney Chukwuemeka from Chelsea, signing the 21-year-old attacking midfielder on a long-term contract valid until June 30, 2030 .
Chukwuemeka joined BVB on loan in February and featured prominently during the latter half of the 2024-25 season. He made 17 appearances and scored once, leaving a strong impression that ultimately led to this permanent move .
Dortmund’s managing director, Lars Ricken, emphasized the club’s intention to enhance quality and creativity in the attacking midfield: "It was important for us to further improve the quality and creativity in our attacking midfield. We are delighted that we have been able to secure such a great talent as Carney for the long term and can now work together on his development." Meanwhile, sporting director Sebastian Kehl added: "Carney has enormous potential, which he has already demonstrated with us in the second half of the season. He can make the difference by consistently finding solutions in tight spaces and gives us an additional footballing element in midfield, which is very beneficial for us."
On his permanent move, Chukwuemeka expressed his happiness and sense of belonging: "It feels really good to now be an integral part of BVB. I’ve gotten to know this club, the coach, my teammates, and the fans over the past few months, and I’m just happy that Borussia Dortmund is now my new footballing home. I will give everything I can to ensure that we achieve our goals as a team." Additionally, he will continue wearing his number 17 jersey .
Financial details of the transfer indicate that Dortmund secured the deal for a base fee of approximately €20 million, rising to around €25 million with performance-related bonuses—substantially lower than the initially demanded figures reportedly exceeding €30 million .
