Chelsea’s Premier League campaign began with frustration as they were held to a 0-0 draw by Crystal Palace in their opening fixture at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues dominated possession — enjoying 71% of the ball — and dictated much of the tempo, but struggled to convert their control into clear-cut chances. Crystal Palace, fresh from their FA Cup triumph last season, proved difficult to break down and defended with discipline throughout.

The match saw a flurry of cautions, with Chelsea’s Reece James and Estevão booked, while Palace’s Daniel Muñoz, Jean-Philippe Mateta, and Will Hughes also found their names in the referee’s book. A moment of controversy arrived when Eberechi Eze’s free-kick for Palace was ruled out following a VAR review.

Despite the stalemate, Chelsea’s performance showed signs of promise under Enzo Maresca, with new signings integrating into the squad and the team maintaining an unbeaten record against Palace in their last 16 league meetings. However, the lack of cutting edge in the final third will be a concern as they look ahead to the next fixture.
