Crystal Palace’s appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has been dismissed, confirming that the club will not be reinstated into the Europa League for the 2025–26 season .
The ruling follows UEFA’s earlier decision to demote the FA Cup winners to the UEFA Conference League due to a breach of multi-club ownership regulations. The conflict stemmed from John Textor’s controlling interests in both Crystal Palace and Olympique Lyonnais during UEFA’s compliance assessment—despite his subsequent sale of his 43 % stake in Palace, CAS concluded this fell outside the permitted timelines .
Nottingham Forest, who finished seventh in the Premier League, will now take Palace’s spot in the Europa League . For their part, Palace will begin their European campaign in the Conference League’s play-off round. Their opponent will be the loser of the Europa League qualifying tie between Fredrikstad and FC Midtjylland. The first leg is set for 21 August at Selhurst Park, followed by the second leg a week later .
Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish expressed deep disappointment and confirmed that the club is exploring whether they can pursue further legal action or seek compensation, given the potential financial loss—estimated in the tens of millions of pounds—from missing out on Europa League participation .
