Ugochukwu joined Chelsea from Rennes in 2023 and made 15 appearances during his debut season before spending the 2024–25 campaign on loan at Southampton. Despite his promise, he was deemed surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea continues its squad overhaul, offloading several players from its so-called “bomb squad.”
Speaking on his move, Ugochukwu said: “It’s a great feeling to sign for Burnley. As soon as I was made aware of the club’s interest, I was keen to hear more about the project. I spoke to the manager and Maxime Estève—they were both so passionate about the club and the direction it’s heading in. It feels like the perfect move for me at this stage of my career with the ambition the club is showing.”
The signing shows Burnley’s intent to strengthen its squad following promotion to the Premier League. With over £65 million spent this transfer window, the club is positioning itself for a competitive campaign. Talks are also ongoing to secure Chelsea forward Armando Broja in a separate deal potentially worth another £20 million.
