The German forward ends a remarkable 25-year stint with Bayern Munich, where he rose from the academy to become one of the most decorated players in the club’s history. He made 756 appearances, scored 250 goals, and provided 276 assists, helping the Bavarian giants win 33 trophies—including 13 Bundesliga titles, two UEFA Champions Leagues, six DFB-Pokal titles, two UEFA Super Cups, and two FIFA Club World Cups.
Internationally, Müller was a pivotal figure for Germany, earning 131 caps, scoring 45 goals, and providing 41 assists. He was part of the squad that won the 2014 FIFA World Cup and received the Golden Boot at the 2010 World Cup, followed by the Silver Boot and Silver Ball in 2014. He retired from international football after Euro 2024.
He joins Vancouver on a deal for the remainder of the 2025 MLS season, with the option to become a Designated Player in 2026. The Whitecaps secured his MLS discovery rights from FC Cincinnati, paying up to $400,000 in General Allocation Money, including $200,000 in 2025, $100,000 in 2026, and a conditional $100,000 also for 2026.
Reacting to the move, Müller said, “I have heard great things about the city, but first and foremost I’m coming to win. I’m looking forward to helping this team win a championship.” Whitecaps CEO and sporting director Axel Schuster praised Müller’s arrival, calling him “a world-class player” and “the ultimate Raumdeuter”—a term Müller coined to describe his unique ability to interpret space on the field.
Despite being 35, Müller remains sharp, having contributed eight goals and eight assists in 49 matches for Bayern in the previous season. His leadership and football intelligence are expected to be key assets for Vancouver, who currently sit second in the MLS Western Conference and are targeting their first-ever MLS Cup title.
Müller is scheduled to arrive in Vancouver by mid-August and could make his debut as early as August 9 against the San José Earthquakes, with a potential home debut on August 16 versus Houston Dynamo.
