Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has clarified the reasoning behind Bukayo Saka’s second-half substitution during the club’s recent Premier League fixture. Speaking after the match, Arteta revealed that Saka had been unwell in the lead-up to the game and had not participated in regular training sessions.
"He’s been ill and hadn’t trained properly, so we were uncertain about his fitness going into the match," Arteta stated. "As the game progressed, it became clear that fatigue was setting in, increasing the risk of injury. We felt it was best not to take that chance."
Saka, who has already missed several matches this season due to injury, started the game but was replaced by Gabriel Martinelli in the 66th minute. His subdued performance revealed his compromised condition, yet Arsenal managed to secure a 1–0 victory over Crystal Palace, extending their lead at the top of the table.
