After a month-long absence due to a groin injury, Ecuadorian defender Piero Hincapié is set to make his comeback for Arsenal in their pivotal Champions League encounter with Atlético Madrid. Manager Mikel Arteta confirmed Hincapié’s availability during a pre-match press conference, noting the player had completed several strong training sessions and is now fit to contribute to the team.
Hincapié, who is on loan from Bayer Leverkusen, last featured briefly in Arsenal’s 2–0 victory over Athletic Club de Bilbao, where he played just one minute before being sidelined. His return comes at a crucial time as the Gunners prepare to face the Spanish giants at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday, October 21.
Arteta expressed confidence in Hincapié’s readiness, stating, “Piero has had a couple of very good sessions and is now available for selection.” The 21-year-old’s inclusion adds depth to Arsenal’s defensive options as they aim to secure a vital result in the group stage of Europe’s premier club competition.
