Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has provided a cautious update on midfielder Rodri’s fitness, confirming that the Spanish international is unlikely to feature in the club’s next two matches against Villarreal and Aston Villa.
Guardiola stated, “I don’t think he’ll be ready for Villarreal or Aston Villa. It’s not a long-term issue, but it’s muscular, and we have to be careful.”
Rodri sustained the injury during City’s clash with Brentford prior to the October international break. Although the setback is not considered serious, Guardiola emphasized the importance of managing the player's recovery prudently, especially given Rodri’s recent history of injuries—including a significant ACL tear in 2024 and multiple minor issues during the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
In Rodri’s absence, Guardiola has turned to Nico Gonzalez to anchor the midfield, as seen in City’s recent 2–0 victory over Everton. The team currently sits second in the Premier League, trailing leaders Arsenal by three points.
