Former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Alfie Whiteman has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 26, choosing to pursue a new career as a photographer and film director.
Whiteman joined Tottenham’s academy as a child, rose through the ranks, and made his senior debut in a 4‑0 Europa League win over Ludogorets Razgrad in November 2020. He spent loan spells with Swedish side Degerfors IF in 2021 and 2022, gaining first‑team experience abroad. At Tottenham, he made only a single senior appearance, and his contract expired in summer 2025 without renewal.

Whiteman has said that despite being part of a top‑level club environment, he did not feel fulfilled within the traditional football bubble and wanted to explore other creative interests. He has now embarked on a full‑time career in photography and film directing, joining production company Somesuch to work behind the camera. In his own words:“Football is a short career regardless, even if you do really well, and I knew that I didn’t want to stay in it.”
