Kylian Mbappé delivered another standout performance as France cruised to a 3–0 win over Azerbaijan in their 2026 World Cup qualifying match on Thursday night.
The France captain opened the scoring just before halftime with a composed finish, then turned provider for Adrien Rabiot’s header in the 69th minute. Substitute Florian Thauvin later came off the bench to seal the win with a stunning volley in the 83rd minute.
Despite the comfortable result, head coach Didier Deschamps expressed frustration over his team’s sluggish first-half display, criticizing their “slow ball circulation” and lack of urgency.
Mbappé was substituted late in the game after appearing to aggravate a minor ankle issue, though it was described as precautionary.
The victory extended France’s remarkable unbeaten streak in major tournament qualifiers to 26 matches, leaving them top of Group D with nine points from three games. Azerbaijan, meanwhile, remain bottom with just one point.
France will look to secure qualification in their next fixture against Iceland, depending on results elsewhere in the group.
