Xabi Alonso, head coach of Real Madrid, has confirmed that no disciplinary action will be taken against winger Vinícius Júnior following his post-substitution outburst in last weekend’s clash with FC Barcelona.
“He was impeccable in his speech in front of all of us,” Alonso said, adding simply: “For me, it’s settled.”
“He was impeccable in his speech in front of all of us,” Alonso said, adding simply: “For me, it’s settled.”
The incident occurred when Vinícius, having contributed strongly in the 2-1 win over Barcelona, was substituted in the 71st minute. He proceeded to storm directly down the tunnel, visibly upset by the decision, despite his key involvement in the winning goal.
Following the game, Vinícius issued a public apology on social media, stating:
“Today I want to apologise to all Real Madrid fans for my reaction when I was substituted in the Clásico… As I already did in person during training, I also want to apologise again to my teammates, the club and the president... Sometimes passion gets the better of me because I always want to win and help my team. My competitive nature comes from the love I feel for this club and everything it represents.”
Notably, his message omitted any direct mention of the coach.
Alonso emphasised that the matter is closed, explaining that the player’s address and conduct since have been satisfactory and therefore no further action will be taken.
Looking ahead, Real Madrid’s next fixture is scheduled for Saturday, 1 November 2025, when they host Valencia CF in La Liga.
