The Swedish striker joined Liverpool from Newcastle United on 1 September 2025, in a British‑record deal reported to be worth £125 million. At Newcastle, Isak had enjoyed a highly productive spell — scoring 62 goals in 109 appearances in all competitions, of which 54 goals came in 86 Premier League games.
Since joining Liverpool, Isak has had limited game time, partly due to a cautious integration following his summer move and missing pre‑season training. Before Sunday’s strike, his only goal for the club had come earlier in a League Cup fixture, not in the league.
The goal came in the 60th minute. The move began with a pass from Florian Wirtz, with Cody Gakpo providing the assist via a cut‑back. Isak slid in to place the ball beyond the keeper at the near post — a calm, composed finish that broke Liverpool’s waiting streak for a Premier League goal from their new striker.
