Moisés Caicedo was sent off during Chelsea’s match against Arsenal after a dangerous challenge on Mikel Merino.
The incident occurred in the 35th minute, when Caicedo attempted a late, high challenge — catching Merino’s planted ankle with his studs. The referee initially awarded a yellow card, but after a review by VAR, the punishment was upgraded to a straight red.
With Caicedo dismissed, Chelsea were reduced to ten men, forcing a tactical reshuffle. The red card marked a significant turning point in what had already been a tense and physical London derby.
As a result of the sending-off, Caicedo now faces a suspension and is set to miss Chelsea’s next few domestic fixtures.
