The patient, Joshua Afolayan, had accused the hospital of removing his kidney without consent during a surgery to address damage caused by an accident in August 2025. A seven-member panel of inquiry confirmed the allegation.
The Ekiti State Government has committed to covering the full cost of a new kidney transplant for Afolayan and his post-transplant care for two years. The government has taken decisive action, dismissing the surgeon and suspending other members of the surgical team for a month. A comprehensive reorganization of relevant departments within EKSUTH is also underway to strengthen clinical governance and patient safety.
