Everton Secures 2-0 Victory Over Nottingham Forest to End Year on a High Note

Everton recorded a 2‑0 away victory over Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, in what was a significant league match to close out the calendar year. The Toffees travelled to the City Ground and delivered a strong performance despite being without a number of first‑team players due to injuries and absences. Both goals in the match came from key contributors as Everton managed to secure all three points and move into the top half of the Premier League table, registering a much‑needed win.

The first goal was scored by James Garner in the 19th minute. Garner, who had previously spent time on loan at Forest earlier in his career, netted the opener after getting on the end of a well‑weighted pass from Dwight McNeil. Garner’s goal came from a composed finish inside the box, giving Everton the lead and setting the tone for their tactical approach. His contribution was vital not only for getting Everton ahead but also in how he helped control the midfield.

Everton’s second goal came later in the match from Thierno Barry in the 79th minute. After persistent pressure from Everton’s attack, Barry finished off a move that was expertly created by Garner. Garner’s involvement in both goals—scoring the opener and assisting the second—was a standout factor in Everton’s victory, earning him plaudits and effectively turning the game in Everton’s favour.

The 2‑0 scoreline marked Everton’s first league victory in four matches, breaking a short slump where they had drawn or lost in recent games. It was a positive response from David Moyes’s side after a run of inconsistent results in December. The victory also snapped Nottingham Forest’s momentum, extending Forest’s struggles as they suffered their third successive defeat under manager Sean Dyche.
