Mohamed Salah Omitted from Liverpool Squad Ahead of Champions League Clash with Inter Milan

Liverpool have left Mohamed Salah out of the squad travelling to Italy for their upcoming UEFA Champions League match against Inter Milan. The decision comes in the wake of a strongly worded post‑match interview Salah gave following Liverpool’s 3–3 draw with Leeds United. In that interview, he claimed the club had “thrown me under the bus,” revealed that his relationship with manager Arne Slot had broken down, and expressed frustration at being benched three games in a row.

Although Salah trained with the team in their final session before travel, the club — in agreement with Slot — opted to exclude him from the travelling 19‑man squad. Despite the public outburst, Liverpool have reportedly decided not to impose formal disciplinary sanctions against him. The omission appears to be a measured response aimed at preserving dressing‑room unity and reasserting managerial authority, rather than a long‑term punishment.

This is not the first game that Salah has been omitted from the starting XI under Slot. He was an unused substitute in recent matches, including games against West Ham and Sunderland. In the recent interview, Salah lamented: “I have done so much for this club… now I’m sitting on the bench and I don’t know why.” He added that he felt singled out after being left out for multiple games, questioning why his long service and prior contributions did not guarantee a place in the line‑up. Salah is also due to depart for international duty soon, when he joins his national team for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations, adding a layer of uncertainty to his short‑term and possibly long‑term role at Anfield.
