The manager has warned that anyone returning overweight after the holidays will be dropped for the Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest on December 27. Guardiola revealed that his players were weighed before their 3-0 win over West Ham and will face another weigh-in on Christmas Day.
"They can eat, but I want to control them," Guardiola said. "Imagine one player and now he's perfect but he will arrive with three kilos more. He will stay in Manchester. He will not travel to Nottingham Forest." This isn't the first time Guardiola has emphasized fitness; he's known for being strict about diet and conditioning. In 2016, he even kept some players away from first-team training until they met weight targets.
Guardiola's tough stance comes as Manchester City sits second in the Premier League, two points behind leaders Arsenal. Despite their recent win over West Ham, Guardiola stressed that improvement is needed, saying, "Merry Christmas, but it's not enough if you won't improve".
