Nigerian Skitmaker Shank Comics Faces Backlash Over Resurfaced Tweet Praising Diddy's "Mindset," Issues ClarificationPopular Nigerian content creator Adesokan Adedeji Emmanuel, known professionally as Shank Comics, has publicly addressed widespread criticism following the resurfacing of an old social media post in which he expressed admiration for Sean "Diddy" Combs' professional mindset. The tweet, originally posted months ago, reignited online debate amid ongoing scrutiny of the American music mogul's legal troubles.
In the now-deleted post, Shank wrote: "What I admire about Diddy is his perspective to the grind. His mind. The way it evolves…….. until he got lost in the pursuit of power." The comment, intended as a reflection on entrepreneurial drive and personal evolution, drew sharp backlash on X (formerly Twitter) after gaining traction last week. Critics accused Shank of insensitivity, arguing that it overlooked the gravity of allegations against Diddy, including sexual misconduct, assault, racketeering, and transportation for prostitution—charges for which Combs was convicted earlier this year and sentenced to 50 months in prison.

The controversy intensified following the release of the Netflix documentary series *Sean Combs: The Reckoning*, co-produced by rapper 50 Cent, which delves into the allegations and has prompted renewed public discourse on accountability in the entertainment industry. Nigerian social media users, in particular, flooded X with reactions, labeling the post as tone-deaf and questioning Shank's judgment. One viral response read: "HIS MIND?????!! This Shank guy is a very big fool," capturing the sentiment of frustration among detractors.

On December 8, Shank took to X to respond directly to the uproar, acknowledging the misstep and firmly distancing himself from Combs. In a detailed statement, he said: "To clarify any misunderstanding: My post about Diddy was a misguided attempt at referencing a villain in a 'movie' and it was irresponsible. To be absolutely clear, I do not admire, support, or defend him in any way. The allegations against him are horrific, and he deserves every consequence that comes from them. What he’s been accused of (and convicted of) is unacceptable and has no place in our industry or anywhere else. Victims deserve justice. I’m committed to doing better and using my platform responsibly."

The apology, which garnered over 2,500 likes and hundreds of replies within hours, appears to have tempered some of the immediate backlash. Supporters praised Shank for owning the error, with one user noting: "Can’t believe people are misunderstanding shanks point with that tweet. He wasn’t praising Diddy, he was commenting on how talent turned into toxic ambition. Context isn’t the same as approval." Others, however, remained skeptical, urging greater caution in discussing figures embroiled in such serious controversies.
