The Super Eagles of Nigeria suffered a 2-1 defeat to Egypt in a pre-Africa Cup of Nations friendly match on Tuesday night, December 16, 2025, at the Cairo International Stadium. Egypt took the lead through Mahmoud Saber just before the half-hour mark, but Nigeria equalized late in the first half through Chidozie Awaziem, who headed home Zaidu Sanusi's free kick.
In the second half, Egypt regained the lead through Mostafa Mohamed, who scored in the 53rd minute. Despite Nigeria's efforts, Egypt held on to secure the win. The match was Nigeria's final test before traveling to Fès, Morocco, for the AFCON tournament, where they will face Tanzania on December 23, 2025.

Egypt's Ahmed Zizo was instrumental in setting up both of Egypt's goals, showcasing his creativity and skill. Nigeria struggled to create clear chances, with their best moments coming from set pieces and long throw-ins. Nigeria's star striker Victor Osimhen was absent, which was felt throughout the match.

The Super Eagles will look to bounce back from this defeat and make a strong impression in the AFCON tournament. They face Tanzania on December 23, 2025, in Fès, Morocco, followed by matches against Tunisia on December 27, 2025, and Uganda on December 30, 2025.
