General Musa — who until recently served as the country’s Chief of Defence Staff — takes over from Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, the former minister who stepped down earlier in the week citing health reasons.
His appointment was confirmed by the Senate on Wednesday, following a rigorous five‑hour screening, and the swearing‑in came less than 24 hours later.
In his remarks during the brief ceremony, President Tinubu described Musa as a “fine gentleman” whose extensive military background and deep understanding of Nigeria’s security architecture make him well suited to lead the defence ministry at a critical time.
General Musa pledged to bring renewed focus on synergy among the armed forces and other security agencies, promising swift action to consolidate recent gains and restore stability across the country.
