FC Barcelona kicked off the new year with a hard-fought 2-0 win over city rivals RCD Espanyol in the Derbi Barcelonà at the RCDE Stadium, extending their lead at the top of La Liga to seven points.
Despite a goalless first half in which Espanyol created several promising opportunities, Barcelona's quality shone through in the closing stages. Substitute Dani Olmo broke the deadlock in the 86th minute with a well-taken goal, assisted by FermÃn López. Robert Lewandowski then sealed the victory in the 90th minute, finishing deftly after another assist from López.
The result marks Barcelona's ninth consecutive La Liga win, consolidating their position as league leaders under manager Hansi Flick. Espanyol, who remain in fifth place, put in a resilient performance but were unable to capitalize on their chances.
