Arsenal started their FA Cup defense against Newcastle, it was a game that was stretched to 120 minutes after both sides played a score draw at the end of 90 minutes.
Mikel Arteta side were able to break down Steve Bruce side in the second extra time when Alexander Lacazette and Bukayo Saka combined well on the edge of the box to find Smith Rowe who finished in style.

Arsenal went ahead to double the lead with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang close range finish after he connected to a low cross from full back Kieran Tierney.

Despite the win for the Gunners, Mikel Arteta was dealt a blow as one of his promising player was injured before the game started.

During warm up, it was reported that Gabriel Martinelli had injured his ankle. The 19 years old was initially listed in the starting XI but Arteta had to make a decision to change Martinelli and name Reiss Nelson.

After the game, Arteta has confirmed that the injury doesn't look good as the young Brazilian was in pain.

Speaking on Arsenal official website, Arteta said: "I am gutted. I was in my office before the game and one of the coaches came in and told me that Gabi had hurt himself, that he'd twisted his ankle.

"I went to the medical room and he was in tears. He was in a lot of pain and we're going to have to see how he is. It didn't look good. He was in pain so I imagine that we're not going to have good news with him."

Just so you know, Martinelli just recovered from a knee injury which he sustained in training last year March.

The forward joined the Gunners in 2019 from a Brazilian club, and he scored 10 goals for the Gunners last season.

Meanwhile, Arteta has revealed that Martinelli will undergo a scan on Sunday.

The manager said: "We really want to know what's going on. He's a character and he wants to play the next game. He doesn't care and can handle pain but I don't know. Hopefully there is nothing too serious but to start with, it didn't look too good."
