Joao Cancelo posed in Bayern Munich shirt for the first time (Photos)

Joao Cancelo, a fullback for Manchester City, has now been loaned to Bayern Munich.

The 28-year-old signs on for the remainder of the campaign with the option to sign on indefinitely for 70 million euros (£61.5 million) in the summer.

Cancelo said during a news conference that his choice was influenced by the recent lack of playing time.

The Portugal international played 98 times in the Premier League after moving from Juventus to City in 2019.

In February 2022, he agreed to a new five-year contract with the Premier League champions, extending his stay at Etihad Stadium through 2027. He insisted that this was not his "final departure" from Manchester.

He only started three games since the World Cup, though, and his reduced playing time coincided with the rise of Rico Lewis and Nathan Ake's improved form. He now joins the German champions.

The past two times Cancelo played, Southampton and Manchester United both defeated the team.

The Portugal international has been handed shirt no 22 with the Bavarians.

He took part in the first training session this afternoon.
