Riyad Mahrez has said that Kepa Arrizabalaga's position inspired him to score the goal that cost Chelsea the game and sent them down.
According to the Manchester City website, Mahrez acknowledged that the Arrizabalaga situation on Sunday prompted him to try his luck from a dead-ball position.
City defeated Graham Potter's team in the FA Cup third round at the Etihad thanks to the Algerian's superb free kick from distance.
“It was a good free-kick. I never take it normally from that far out, but I saw the big space on the keeper’s left side and I was thinking if I shoot properly maybe it can go in. I did and luckily it went in so I’m happy,” said Mahrez.
Manchester City outclassed Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, recording 4-0 win.
The Algerian grabbed brace in the game while Julian Alvarez scored a penalty as well Phil Foden goal.
It was Mahrez who opened the scoring wrh a stunning free kick before Alvarez scored a penalty after Kai Havertz handled the ball with his hand in the box.
Then, Phil Foden made it 3-0 just before half time whistle.
Pep Guardiola side were in control of the game, they stepped up the pressure on Chelsea which made Koulibaly foul Foden in the box.
Mahrez, 30, stepped up and his sent Kepa Arrizabalaga the wrong way as City book their fourth round tie against Arsenal.
