Five months before it was set to expire, former Real Madrid left back Marcelo decided to end his contract with Greek club Olympiacos, citing interest from an overseas team.
Marcelo posted on social media that his time in Greece had been an unforgettable experience and that the team had treated him with great hospitality.
The club and the city would not be Marcelo's last stops, he said. The left back continued to express his appreciation for donning the Olympiacos jersey.
Additionally, the player will express his love and respect for the club's president, as well as for his friends, teammates, all of the staff, and the supporters.
The entire Olympiacos family would like to thank Marcelo for his support and zeal, according to a tweet from Olympiacos.
Following his success with Real Madrid in La Liga and the Champions League, Marcelo joined Olympiacos last season on a free transfer.
The Brazilian team Fluminense was where the 34-year-old left back began his career before joining Real Madrid in 2007.
The Brazilian left back was more successful during his 15 years with the Spanish powerhouse, where he won six La Liga championships, five Champions League crowns, and two Copa del Reys.
One of the biggest clubs in Greece, Olympiacos, had won the league title eight times and the Greek Cup three times in the previous ten years.
He agreed to a one-year contract with the Greek team, but his playing opportunities were few because of his advanced age.
Three goals were scored by Marcelo in just 10 games. Olympiacos currently ranks third in the domestic competition, behind Panathinaikos and AEK.
