In honor of his former teammate Christian Atsu, Romelu Lukaku scored the game's first goal for Inter Milan on Saturday night.
In the early hours of Saturday, Atsu's representatives announced that their client's body had been discovered 12 days after a powerful earthquake that had devastated Turkey, where the Ghanaian was playing for Hatayspor, washed away much of the country.
It was the 31-year-old's most recent club in a illustrious career that saw him play for Premier League clubs Newcastle United, Bournemouth, and Everton, where he was a teammate of Romelu Lukaku.
With a penalty kick to start the scoring against Udinese, the Belgian striker, who is currently on loan at Inter Milan, scored his second goal for the team. Lukaku's penalty in the 20th minute was saved, but he was successful when it had to be retaken.
After the successful kick, Lukaku honored Atsu by raising his fingers to the sky. Later, after the game, he posted a tribute to Atsu's Instagram account.
Lukaku wrote: 'Rest easy brother. This one is a hard one to take … It was amazing to be around you. You’re humbleness and love for God. The way how you worked in training. The love you had for your family and kids.
'May God give all the strength to your kids and family … God bless your soul. Love you always.'
In happier times at Everton, where Atsu made five loan appearances in the 2014–15 season, the Belgian shared two images of the pair together.
After scoring his first goal at the San Siro this season, Lukaku also posted a photo of his tribute.
