"Chelsea job has been really difficult" - Interim manager Bruno Saltor says 24 hours after he replaced Potter

Chelsea's new interim first-team coach, Bruno Saltor, has acknowledged that the period following Graham Potter's dismissal has been "really difficult.".
When Potter acquired Saltor from Brighton in September of last year, it was announced on Sunday that he would be leaving the team after a disastrous 31-game run as manager.

A thorough search is being conducted to find Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital's third manager of a reign that has not yet reached its first anniversary. His former assistant, Saltor, was immediately named as the club's new interim manager.

Before the team's Tuesday night Premier League match against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge, Saltor expressed his sadness over Potter and his longtime assistant Billy Reid leaving the club.

'It's been difficult at every single level,' he said. 'You have to deal with the press conference, the players, the relationship with Graham and Billy, how it effects their family. A really difficult 12 hours.

'I just spoke to Graham five minutes ago and he sent his regards to all of you. Obviously it's been a difficult 24 hours for all of us, for the staff, for the families and now we just have to deal with the situation.

The owners' goal now is to find a candidate who can maximize the performance of a playing squad that has undergone significant change over the past seven or eight months after firing two managers previously.

The squad has received over £600 million in investment, and a number of young players have been added as the club works to create a team that will be competitive for many years to come.

The front-runner to take over is former Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann, with whom contact has already been made through intermediaries.
