In preparation for Saturday's Premier League match against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Lampard led Chelsea in practice on Thursday. He has now returned to the team he led until 2021, and although Potter's replacement is being sought, conversations are still going on with a number of potential candidates.
Lampard, who has scored 211 goals for Chelsea overall, has been unemployed since leaving Everton in January. In June 2019, he was appointed manager of Chelsea, where he guided the team to fourth place in the Premier League and the FA Cup final, where they lost to Arsenal. The next year Thomas Tuchel took his position when he was fired.
Mason Mount is a "big player" for Chelsea, according to new Chelsea interim manager Frank Lampard, who promised a "clean slate" for the whole team.
Just over two years after the club fired him, Lampard has been named temporary manager until the conclusion of the current campaign.
The 44-year-old previously oversaw the Blues from July 2019 until January 2021, and Mount was a crucial part of that management team.
The England international, whose contract expires in the summer of 2019, has had a difficult season due to injuries, a lack of performance, and rumors about his future at Stamford Bridge.
The 24-year-old hasn't been used as a substitute in Chelsea's previous two games, but under Lampar, he may make a comeback.
"Mason has always been a fantastic player for me at Derby and Chelsea," said Lampard in his first press conference.
"I know he's had a few slight injury problems. I need to speak to him and find out where he's at, but I know what I get from Mason. He's a huge player for Chelsea
"Modern-day football has big squads and I understand Chelsea might be at the top end. I remember being here before and having that.
"Maybe in the short term, that's a positive thing for me because everyone can have a clean slate."
