Granit Xhaka, a standout for Arsenal, is in advanced negotiations to join Bayer Leverkusen during the summer transfer window.
Given the dearth of depth in the Gunners' midfield, the 30-year-old Swiss international has lately been linked with an unexpected summer departure. With manager Xabi Alonso being particularly interested in the transfer, Bayer Leverkusen of Germany was the major club mentioned when it came to recruiting Xhaka.
Xhaka is now close to completing a move to Leverkusen, where he will sign a €15 million (£13 million) agreement and a term until 2027.
In 45 games across all leagues this season, Xhaka has seven goals and seven assists. Xhaka would have entered the last year of his contract if he had stayed at Emirates Stadium through the summer, and the club had the option to extend it by an additional year.
