As Arsenal lost to the Cottagers at home by a score of 2-0, Havertz earned his third straight Premier League start of the year.

Kai Havertz who joined Arsenal for £65 million this summer put up his worst performance to date on Saturday, showing why he hasn't yet found his stride in a red and white jersey.

He had an opportunity to score his first goal for Mikel Arteta's team in the first half, but was denied by some superb defence. But as the game wore on, the German struggled more and more, much to the annoyance of the crowd and maybe even his teammates.

After Arsenal gave up in the opening minute of the match, the 24-year-old had another opportunity to tie the score. Instead of taking a chance, he was caught on his heels as the ball fizzed across goal for a tap-in by Bukayo Saka, leaving teammate Rice to flap his arms in disgust as staring up into the sky.

Even the most fundamental link-up play evaded the offensive midfielder, which gave the impression that his confidence was low. Rice extended out his arms in astonishment as Gabriel Martinelli waited for a through ball but instead got a pass behind him that nearly went into touch.

Havertz got the ball in space before being replaced by Arteta in the 56th minute, but instead of driving with the ball, he delivered a poor throw back to Rice that was intercepted. Rice reminded his struggling teammate there were other, better passing alternatives available after reaching the breaking point of his patience.
