Alexis Sanchez was offered the option to return to the Emirates Stadium this summer, but Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, declined.
Mikel Arteta was told by Sanchez over the phone that he intended to join the Arsenal, but the Spanish tactician abruptly rejected the offer, according to Mirror Football.
According to reports, Arteta informed Sanchez over the phone that he doesn't see him in his plans for the Emirates Stadium. In response to Arteta's "No" to his offer, Alexis made the decision to join Inter Milan.
Arteta rejected the transfer without giving it much thought, maybe due to his age and current form. The Arsenal board was allegedly eager to welcome Sanchez back to the Emirates Stadium, and the player himself was looking forward to the reunion.
Recall that in 2014, Alexis Sanchez moved to Arsenal from Barcelona. During his time at the Emirates Stadium, Sanchez helped the team win the FA Cup and Community Shield.
The Chilean joined Manchester United in 2018 and played there for only one season before switching to Inter Milan.
Sanchez left Marseille on a free transfer and has since signed a short-term contract with Inter Milan.
