Pep Guardiola, the manager of  Manchester City, has explained why some transactions were not completed in the past.

Guardiola emphasized in a press conference on Friday that they would not pay more than what they consider to be a "fair" price.

Harry Maguire, who was then playing for Leicester City, and Alexis Sanchez, who was then playing for Arsenal, were once mentioned in connection with City.

In the end, Manchester City backed out of the agreements. Marc Cucurella headed to Chelsea, while Maguire and Sanchez both joined Manchester United.

“We have to see what happens in the market and if we can do it and to pay what we believe is fair.

“We wanted (Harry) Maguire and didn’t buy him because we didn’t want to pay, we wanted (Marc) Cucurella and didn’t pay, we wanted Alexis Sanchez and didn’t pay."

City will host Newcastle United in their second Premier league match on Saturday night.

If you recall that Pep Guardiola defeated Burnley 3-0 in their opening game of the season ag Turf Moore

“In the end we will pay what is fair to do it. Otherwise we have the academy. We won’t be desperate just to get another player,” Guardiola added.
