Following the loss of his wedding band during his 13-day kidnapping ordeal, Luis Manuel Diaz has expressed his desire to renew his wedding vows to his wife, Cilenis Marulanda.
The harrowing incident unfolded on October 28 when both Luis Manuel Diaz and Cilenis were taken hostage together. Unfortunately, Cilenis was abandoned near her hometown of Barrancas shortly afterward, while her 58-year-old husband was taken towards the Perija Mountains on the Colombia-Venezuela border. Luis Manuel Diaz remained a prisoner of the left-wing ELN hostage-takers until Thursday.
After enduring this traumatic experience, Luis Manuel Diaz has since been reunited with his family and has had the opportunity to speak with his son, who plays as a striker for Liverpool.
The request for a vow renewal ceremony was made to Monsignor Ceballos, who played a pivotal role in the humanitarian effort to rescue Luis Manuel Diaz.
He said, 'He told me I had to marry him again because he had lost his ring.
He said he wanted to renew his wedding vows.'
Monsignor Ceballos did not delve into the details surrounding how Luis Manuel lost his wedding ring, and it is known that he suffered a knee injury during the ordeal after falling from a motorbike ridden by one of his captors.
The bishop had previously disclosed to a Colombian radio station that Mr. Diaz had been compelled to walk day and night during his kidnapping ordeal. The circumstances surrounding the loss of the wedding band and the subsequent request for a renewal ceremony add a poignant layer to this already dramatic narrative.
