Hollywood power couple Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez are reportedly set to file for divorce after months of swirling split rumors.
According to the Daily Mail, the 51-year-old actor, known for his role in "The Last Duel," and the 55-year-old superstar singer are advancing with their divorce after a final attempt at reconciliation in recent weeks failed. Multiple sources have reported that the couple's divorce documents "are finalized, but not yet turned in."
This news follows Affleck's recent purchase of a new $20.5 million "bachelor pad" mansion in Pacific Palisades on July 24, which also marked Lopez’s 55th birthday. Friends of Lopez have claimed that Affleck’s decision to acquire this bachelor pad on her birthday felt like a "stab to the heart."
The timing of this purchase is notable, coming just days after the couple listed their Beverly Hills mansion for $68 million. On the same date, Lopez finalized the sale of her four-bedroom New York City penthouse for $23 million, according to People.
A source close to the couple disclosed, "They finalized the divorce papers with her a month ago, but are waiting for the right time to drop them." The source also noted that when the papers are eventually filed, a joint statement will be issued. This statement will emphasize how the couple has "much love for each other and how they fought to make it work, but couldn't." Another source added, "Honestly, in the end, they could not come to a compromise. What they had before is gone and they have both accepted it."
The pair were last photographed together on March 30 and have since spent the summer apart, with Lopez largely on the East Coast while Affleck has remained in Los Angeles. They even spent their second wedding anniversary on July 16 in different cities.
Reports of marital difficulties between Affleck and Lopez began circulating in May when a source close to the couple mentioned that Affleck had moved into a $100,000 rental and that the couple intended to sell their "dream home." Affleck's new residence is located just a short drive from his ex-wife Jennifer Garner's house in Brentwood. Affleck and Garner were married from 2005 to 2018 and share three children: Violet, 18, Fin, 15, and Samuel, 12.
