Thomas, 41, faced a Federal Court in Lausanne today, where his appeal for release from custody was denied. He has confessed to killing his wife. The investigation revealed "concrete indications of mental illness" underlying the case. Reports suggest that Kristina was allegedly murdered after an altercation in which she had previously come at him with a knife.
The relationship between Kristina and Thomas had reportedly been "in crisis for months," with police having been called out on several occasions due to reports of physical violence. Investigators noted that Thomas, a businessman, demonstrated a "conspicuously high level of criminal energy" and exhibited "a lack of empathy and cold-bloodedness" following the murder. His efforts to conceal the crime further highlighted what was described as "sadistic-sociopathic traits."
According to local outlet BZ Basel, prosecutors revealed that Thomas had previously strangled Kristina before proceeding with the dismemberment. Kristina, originally from Binningen with Serbian roots, had transitioned from modeling to become a catwalk coach, training future Miss Switzerland candidates to follow in her footsteps.
