Valentina Petrillo, a transgender athlete, has shared photos from before her transition as she prepares to compete in the Paralympics.

The pictures, which show Petrillo with a receding hairline and a tight smile, were taken when she was known as Fabrizio.
Petrillo's qualification for the Paralympics has sparked controversy, as she competed as a man until seven years ago. Despite the backlash, Petrillo remains focused on her competition and her family. "I'm not bothered what JK Rowling or anyone else says, I'm just here for myself and my family," she stated. "There's a lot of transphobia out there, and I'm here only to compete and ignoring that outside noise."
Petrillo's journey to self-discovery has been marked by significant personal changes. She married her wife, Elena, in 2016, before coming out as transgender in 2017 and beginning her transition in 2019. Although the couple, who share a nine-year-old son named Lorenzo, have since divorced, Petrillo's commitment to her identity and athletic pursuits remains unwavering.
