Ruud van Nistelrooy has bid farewell to Manchester United fans following his brief tenure as interim manager. After the dismissal of Erik ten Hag in October 2024, Van Nistelrooy, initially appointed as assistant manager earlier in the summer, stepped up to take the reins on a temporary basis. 
During his short stint, Van Nistelrooy oversaw four matches, including a memorable 5-2 win over Leicester City and a 3-0 victory in his final match. His time at the helm was marked by a strong attacking style, with United showing flashes of brilliance.
Van Nistelrooy's departure comes as the club has moved forward with its plans to appoint Rúben Amorim as the new head coach. Amorim, who will bring his own coaching staff to Manchester United, is tasked with leading the club through this next phase of its evolution.
Despite his exit, Van Nistelrooy expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to lead the team, stating that he was driven by a desire to contribute to the club’s success during a period of transition. His commitment to Manchester United remained strong throughout, and he emphasized his hope to support the team in any capacity moving forward.
