Nigerian Afro-dancehall musician Timaya recently shared a compelling story of faith, ambition, and resilience in an interview with Naija FM 102.7.
Reflecting on a pivotal moment in his life, Timaya recounted how he attended Bishop David Oyedepo’s Shiloh event and purchased a Bentley key holder, despite not having the means to afford the luxury car at the time. He explained, "Before I bought my Bentley, I first bought the key holder for Shiloh. I no even get money for the Bentley oh. I just go Shiloh. I’m a Winner.” This act of faith symbolized his belief in his future success.
During the same interview, Timaya praised Burna Boy’s fearlessness and determination, recalling an incident at a studio where Burna Boy boldly predicted he would one day be paid to fly in private jets. Timaya narrated, “Nothing Burna Boy is doing now surprises me. The guy is fearless.” Despite skepticism from Omawumi and Waje, Burna Boy’s conviction about his aspirations left a lasting impression.
Timaya also used the opportunity to reflect on his enduring career and influence in the music industry. With nine studio albums, including his latest, Gladiator, he emphasized the importance of consistency, faith, and authenticity. He advised younger artists to avoid shortcuts like substance abuse, stating, "Drug is not an option; it's an illusion. Build longevity."
