South African goalkeeper Ronwen Williams has been honored as the Premier Soccer League (PSL) Goalkeeper of the Season for 2022–2023.
Williams, who plays for Mamelodi Sundowns, has been instrumental in his team's defensive strength throughout the season.
The other nominees for this prestigious award included Hugo Marques of Cape Town City and Itumeleng Khune of Kaizer Chiefs, both of whom have demonstrated exceptional goalkeeping skills during the season.
Williams' outstanding performances have not only earned him domestic recognition but have also placed him on the international stage. Notably, he was ranked the ninth-best goalkeeper in the world at the 2024 Ballon d'Or awards, becoming the first South African footballer to be nominated for a Ballon d'Or award.
His consistent excellence has been pivotal in Mamelodi Sundowns' successes, including their triumph in the African Football League in 2023, where he made crucial penalty saves.
