Lisandro Martínez has suffered a significant setback after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), an injury that is expected to sideline him for the remainder of the season.
The Manchester United defender sustained the injury during the club’s 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace, forcing him off the pitch in the 76th minute following a challenge with Palace forward Ismaila Sarr. Martínez was visibly in distress and had to be stretchered off.
Manchester United manager Rúben Amorim addressed the situation, expressing deep concern. "I think it's a serious situation," he stated. While official confirmation of the injury's extent is still pending, reports indicate fears of severe ligament damage that could keep the Argentine international out for months.
This latest injury is a major blow for Martínez, who has already endured long spells on the sidelines due to previous setbacks, including a fractured metatarsal and knee ligament damage. His absence will be a significant loss for United, as he has played a key role in the team’s defense, featuring in 32 appearances this season.
The club and its supporters now await further medical evaluations to determine the full extent of the damage and his potential recovery timeline.
