Jean-Philippe Mateta, the forward for Crystal Palace, was hospitalized following a severe injury during the FA Cup fifth-round match against Millwall on Saturday. In the eighth minute, Millwall goalkeeper Liam Roberts attempted to clear a ball outside his penalty area but collided with Mateta, striking him in the head. The impact left Mateta bloodied, requiring on-field medical attention and subsequent transportation to the hospital, where he is expected to undergo surgery on his ear.

Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish condemned the challenge as "the most reckless" he has witnessed, emphasizing the potential dangers of such high-footed plays. Manager Oliver Glasner echoed these concerns, labeling it a "very serious foul play" while acknowledging there was likely no intent to injure.
Despite the early setback, Crystal Palace secured a 3-1 victory, advancing to the quarter-finals. Following the match, Mateta reassured fans through social media, stating, "I'm doing well. I hope to be back very soon and stronger than ever." He also praised his team's performance, saying, "Well done, guys for the great job today."

The Football Association has initiated an investigation into the incident, and further updates on Mateta's condition are anticipated as he begins his recovery.
