Barcelona Thrash Dortmund to Take Commanding Lead in Champions League Quarter-Final
Barcelona delivered a dominant performance on Tuesday night, securing a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final clash at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys.
The Spanish giants opened the scoring in the 25th minute through Raphinha, who finished off a well-worked move to set the tone for a commanding night. Despite a series of fine saves from Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel, Barcelona continued to apply pressure and were rewarded again early in the second half.
Facing his former club, Robert Lewandowski doubled the lead shortly after the restart and added a second goal in the 66th minute to all but seal the result. Rising star Lamine Yamal completed the rout in the 77th minute, ensuring Barcelona head into the return leg in Germany with a significant advantage.
The victory extended Barcelona’s unbeaten run in 2025 to 23 matches across all competitions, with their attacking trio of Lewandowski, Yamal, and Raphinha playing a pivotal role. The trio have now combined for 36 goals in this season’s Champions League campaign and 145 in all competitions.
Following the match, Lewandowski stressed the importance of staying focused ahead of the second leg, while Dortmund manager Niko Kovač admitted his side were second-best on the night, citing defensive errors as a key factor in the heavy defeat.
Barcelona’s emphatic win puts them in a commanding position to reach the semi-finals, reaffirming their status as serious contenders for this season’s European crown.
