Pablo Barrios Commits Future to Atlético Madrid with New Contract Until 2030

Atlético Madrid has officially secured the long-term future of midfielder Pablo Barrios, announcing a contract extension that will keep the 21-year-old at the club until June 2030. This new agreement reflects Barrios' rapid rise within the squad and his growing importance under manager Diego Simeone. 

The extension comes amid significant interest from top European clubs, including Arsenal, Chelsea, and Bayern Munich, who have been monitoring Barrios' impressive performances this season. To deter potential suitors, Atlético has reportedly included a release clause exceeding €100 million in the new contract, while also tripling his salary from €1 million to €3 million annually .

Barrios, a product of Atlético's academy, made his first-team debut in October 2022 and has since become a mainstay in the midfield. In the current season, he has made 40 appearances, starting 37 of them, and has contributed one goal and six assists . His versatility allows him to operate both defensively and offensively, making him a valuable asset in various tactical setups. 

The club views Barrios as the natural successor to long-serving captain Koke, with both the management and Koke himself endorsing this transition . Barrios' commitment to Atlético is further exemplified by his decision to forgo participation in the upcoming UEFA Under-21 Championship to focus on the FIFA Club World Cup, where Atlético will face Paris Saint-Germain on June 15—coinciding with Barrios' 22nd birthday .
