Real Madrid has formally presented Dean Huijsen as its latest signing. The 20-year-old centre-back, acquired from Bournemouth after the club triggered his €59 million (£50 million) release clause, has signed a five-year contract extending through the 2029–30 season .
During an emotional brief ceremony at Valdebebas, club president Florentino Pérez welcomed Huijsen, presenting him with a replica of the Santiago Bernabéu, a commemorative watch, and the iconic white jersey numbered 24 . Although he had hoped to wear the No. 4—his idol Sergio Ramos’s legendary number—it was already taken by David Alaba .
"I'm joining the best club in the world," Huijsen declared, reaffirming his commitment and humility. “Since Real Madrid called, I never considered another team. I’m here to give my all, stay humble, and win trophies—starting with the Club World Cup.” .
Standing at 1.97 m, the Dutch-born defender has been lauded as a modern centre-back, comfortable with the ball and strong in the air. He earned recognition this past season in the Premier League with Bournemouth—where he made 34 appearances, scoring three goals—and recently debuted for Spain in the Nations League .
Huijsen will don the No. 24 shirt for the first time in the Club World Cup opener against Al Hilal on 18 June . His arrival marks the start of a new defensive rebuild under coach Xabi Alonso, who sees him as a key part of Real’s long-term strategy .
